Abstract

In the face of rapid urbanization and modernization, historic structures such as Chinar House in Abbottabad represent the fading architectural legacy of colonial-era Pakistan. This research investigates the architectural characteristics, historical background, and current conservation challenges of Chinar House a prominent example of British colonial residential architecture. Utilizing primary documentation through site surveys, photographic analysis, and architectural drawings, alongside secondary research, the study highlights the physical degradation due to natural and human-induced factors. Key conservation issues identified include structural cracks, material decay, roof damage, and aesthetic deterioration. The paper concludes with targeted recommendations for restoration strategies and emphasizes the need for integrated heritage conservation policies at the local and national levels.
